The red lacquered zelkova wood cabinet, recorded in the Todaiji Temple Donation Book dated June 21, 756, contained Empress Komyo's handwritten Rakugiron, as well as a scepter and a rhinoceros horn sake cup, and the Rokushu cabinet, made during the Tenpyo Shoho era (749-757) and placed in the Great Buddha Hall of Todaiji Temple, was recorded as having sutras and treatises and miscellaneous items placed on shelves inside. In addition to the red lacquered zelkova wood cabinet, Shosoin also contains a persimmon cabinet with double doors and a black persimmon double-sided cabinet with double doors on both the front and back. Both cabinets are long, box-shaped cabinets with a single shelf inside, and are assumed to have been typical of cabinets from the Nara period.

　天平勝宝8年(756)6月21日の《東大寺献物帳》に記載される赤漆文欟木厨子（せきしつぶんかんぼくずし）は，光明皇后自筆の《楽毅論》をはじめ笏や犀角盃（さいかくのさかずき）などを納め，また天平勝宝年間(749‐757)に製作された東大寺大仏殿安置の六宗厨子は，内部の棚に経論や雑具を置いていたと記録されている。正倉院には赤漆文欟木厨子のほか，同様に観音開き扉を具した柿厨子，観音開き扉を表裏両面に具した黒柿両面厨子がある。いずれも中に1段の棚を設けた横長の箱形厨子であり，奈良時代の厨子の典型であったと想定される。…
