Jakusho (Jakusho)

Japanese: 寂照(寂昭) - じゃくしょう
Jakusho (Jakusho)
?-1034(Chogen 7)
A monk in the mid-Heian period. He was the third son of councilor Oe Narimitsu, and his real name was Sadamoto. While serving as Mikawa no Kami, he was inspired to become a monk after the death of his mistress, and in 986 (Kanwa 2), he became a priest. He entered Higashiyama Nyoirin-ji Temple and studied under Jakushin (Yoshishige no Yasutane), and also studied under Genshin and Ninkai. From around 988 (Eien 2), he repeatedly requested permission to enter Song China to make a pilgrimage to Mount Wutai (Mount Seiryo), and after Jakushin's death, he left Hizen in August 1003 (Choho 5, Kanpei 6 of Song), arriving in Mingzhou in September. It is well known that at this time, Genshin entrusted Jakusho with the "Twenty-Seven Questions about Taizhou" and asked Shimei Chirei for an answer.
