A historical tale in Japanese, centering on the life histories of five emperors: Gohorikawa, Shijo, Gosaga, Gofukakusa, and Kameyama. The author is unknown. The most recent entry is the death of Emperor Juntoku's grandson Minamoto no Hikohito in March 1298 (Einin 6), and some copies have a colophon from 1327 (Kareya 2), so it is thought to have been written during this period. At the end of the story, there is an account of the presentation of the attached documents after the death of Emperor Gosaga, and in discussing the origins of the system of succession of the two imperial dynasties, the famous passage states that "matters concerning the reign of the emperor should be decided by the Kanto region." There are many passages that could supplement Masukagami. Included in the Imperial Affairs Section of Gunsho Ruiju.
