Aknakary Agreement

...So, American forces, centered around the Standard Oil Group, tried to make a strong entry into Iraq, which was considered the most promising new resource area at the time, and in cooperation with the US State Department, in 1928, BP, Shell, CFP, Jersey Standard, Mobil, and others established the Iraq Petroleum Co. (IPC), which exclusively controlled Iraq's crude oil resources. In the same year, BP, Shell, and Jersey Standard negotiated and concluded the Achnacarry agreement, which eliminated competition for sales and exports on the world market and fixed their market shares at the time. Later, Jersey Standard and Mobil established Standard Vacuum Oil Co. with equal investment in 1933 to conduct joint business in the areas east of the Suez Canal (Asia and the Far East), and Texaco and California Standard established Caltex Petroleum Corp. in 1936 to conduct joint business throughout the Eastern Hemisphere.
