A socialist research and practice group in the Meiji period. It was founded on January 28, 1900 (Meiji 33) under a new name, the Socialism Research Society. Its chairman was Abe Isoo, and its executive members were Kawakami Kiyoshi (later Katayama Sen and Nishikawa Mitsujiro). On March 2, 1901, it hosted Japan's first socialist academic speech meeting, and made every effort to promote and disseminate socialism. In particular, when the Social Democratic Party was banned from associating, it became particularly active by holding speeches, tea parties, debates, and campaigning around the country in addition to regular meetings, and continued to promote the socialist movement even after the Heiminsha was founded. Its main members were members of the Socialism Research Society, as well as Kinoshita Naoe, and the number of members, which initially numbered just over 30, temporarily reached 180. On November 16, 1904, it was ordered to ban its association.
