Japanese: 観音寺[市] - かんおんじ

Kagawa City is located in the western part of Kagawa Prefecture, occupying the main part of the Mitoyo Plain and facing the Hiuchi Nada Sea. It was incorporated as a city in 1955. The central town at the mouth of the Saita River developed around Kotohiki Shrine and Kannonji Temple, the 68th and 69th temples of the 88 Shikoku Temples. There were many fishing houses and the city was called Kariya Senken. The Yosan Line runs through the city, and fishing, seafood processing such as dried sardines and kamaboko, and frozen food processing are thriving. The plains produce a lot of rice, lettuce, and onions. There are many scenic spots such as Kotohiki Park (a scenic spot) and Ariake Beach. In October 2005, Toyohama Town and Onohara Town in Mitoyo County were incorporated. Area: 117.84 ^km2 . Population: 62,690 (2010).

香川県西端，三豊平野主要部を占め，燧灘(ひうちなだ)に臨む市。1955年市制。財田(さいた)川河口の中心市街は琴弾(ことひき)神社や四国八十八ヵ所68番69番札所観音寺を中心に発達，漁家も多く仮屋千軒と呼ばれた。予讃線が通じ，漁業と煮干，かまぼこなどの水産加工，冷凍食品加工が盛ん。平野では米，レタス，タマネギを多産。琴弾公園（名勝），有明浜などの景勝地が多い。2005年10月三豊郡豊浜町，大野原町を編入。117.84km²。６万2690人（2010）。
