(1) A socialist magazine founded in March 1906 by Sakai Toshihiko through Yubunsha (a publishing company named by Sakai by breaking down the structure of the kanji character 坂). It ceased publication due to financial difficulties after five issues, April, May, July, and August. The first issue carried the full text of the Communist Manifesto, which had been banned when it was published in the weekly Heimin Shimbun (issue 53). It included translations of essays by Kropotkin, Engels, Liebknecht, Kautsky, and others, and was one of the first to introduce the world socialist movement. (2) A magazine founded in April 1919 by Sakai Toshihiko and Yamakawa Kinuichi. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
