1865‐1942 Germany's most representative agricultural economics scholar. Also known as Erebör. Born in the suburbs of Hamburg to an educator by father. At the University of Jena he studied under T. Goltz, a leading figure in agricultural economics, and was greatly influenced by him, but he gradually drifted away from his teacher academically. After a colorful career that included teaching at an agricultural school, secretary of the German Agricultural Association, and farm manager, he taught agricultural economics and agricultural policy at the Agricultural Universities of Bonn-Poppelsdorf, Hohenheim, and Berlin, as well as at the University of Breslau and the University of Berlin from 1904 until his retirement in 1931.
