From ancient times, natural mineral powders were mixed with liquid to be used, but nowadays, pigments are sometimes made artificially, and in addition to the traditional water, oil, and resin, synthetic resins are also used as binders. Depending on the binder and purpose, there are oil paints, watercolor paints, crayons, acrylic paints, and so on. 絵画を描く色材。古くから天然鉱物の粉末を液体で練り合わせて用いたが，現在では顔料を人工的に作ることもあり，展色剤も従来の水，油，樹脂などのほかに合成樹脂も用いられている。展色剤と目的により，油絵具，水彩絵具，クレヨン，アクリル絵具などがある。東洋の絵具（岩絵具）は水彩絵具の一種。→顔料
