A scholar and monk from the Eastern Jin Dynasty in China. He was well-known among aristocrats and intellectuals, and was well-versed in the study of Laozi and Zhuangzi. He interpreted the Prajnaparamita Sutra, Vimalakirti Sutra, and other texts based on his Chinese education. His main work is Praise of the Amida Buddha.
