Electrocoagulation

...It consists of a high-frequency current generator, a metal part that directs the current to the living body, and a return electrode that collects the current from the living body. The treatments that can be performed with an electric scalpel are (1) electrodesiccation, (2) electrocoagulation, and (3) electrocuting, all of which utilize the effect of the heat generated by the high frequency to coagulate and denature proteins in the living body. Only electrodesiccation does not use a return electrode, and therefore tumors on the surface of the body are carbonized without current flowing through the living body.
