Kyonodake - Today's Dake

...The archipelago's main body is a landform mountain range, and subsequent submergence has created many straits and bays, giving it a beautiful ria coastline. To the east of the landform mountain range lies Fukue Island's Ondake volcano (315m) and the Tomie lava plateau, while to the west lies volcanic islands such as Uku Island and Ojika Island, as well as Kyonodake volcano (183m at the northwestern tip of Fukue Island). The archipelago is located at the western edge of Japan and close to the Chinese mainland, and was once a port of call for Japanese envoys to the Tang Dynasty and a base for Japanese pirates, and there are many ruins from those times.
