Shidohira [Hot Spring] - Shidohira

Japanese: 志戸平[温泉] - しどだいら

This hot spring is located in Yuguchi, Hanamaki City, central Iwate Prefecture. It is about 15km west of Hanamaki Station on the Tohoku Main Line, and there is a bus service from the station. It overlooks the clear waters of the Toyosawa River, a tributary of the Kitakami River, and in autumn the autumn leaves of Matsukurayama are beautiful. Legend has it that Sakanoue no Tamuramaro healed an arrow wound here during his expedition to the Emishi. Currently, as part of the Hanamaki Onsen Village, it is a hot spring aimed at family vacationers, with a hot spring pool, a bath for 1,000 people, an amusement park and more. 岩手県中部，花巻市湯口にある温泉。東北本線花巻駅の西方約15km，同駅よりバスの便がある。北上川の支流豊沢川の清流に臨み，秋には松倉山の紅葉が美しい。蝦夷征討の際に坂上田村麻呂が矢傷をいやしたという伝説がある。現在は花巻温泉郷の一つとして，温泉プール，千人風呂，遊園地などを備えた家族行楽客向けの温泉となっている。単純泉で，泉温は50～81℃。【谷沢明】
