...The representative poet of the counterculture in the 1960s was Michael Dransfield (1948-73), who died young. In novels, social realism developed against the background of discrimination and abuse of exiles, Native Americans and Asians, and conflicts between squatters (large ranch owners) and small farmers and migrant herdsmen, and Marcus Clarke (1846-81), Rolf Boldrewood (1826-1915), Joseph Furphy (1843-1912), Lawson and X. Herbert, among others, appeared. This was also linked to cultural nationalism movements such as the Zindiworobak movement (late 1930s to early 1950s) of poets. ...
