It is a valuation standard that attempts to reflect the fluctuations in the general price level or market price at the time of valuation in asset valuation, and corresponds to the historical cost method. The basis for the current value method is the idea of maintaining real capital, which states that the amount of money required to replace consumed assets should be recovered, and also that it provides the latest information that is useful for the decision-making of various stakeholders of a company. The broader current value method also includes the modified cost method, which adjusts the acquisition cost in accordance with the fluctuations in the general price level. The narrower current value method is the method of valuing assets (or their utility) based on the amount of money that should flow in when the asset (or its utility) is sold outside the company, that is, the current value in the selling market (discounted present value method, selling current value method), and the method of valuing assets based on the amount of money required when purchasing assets within the company, that is, the current value in the purchasing market (replacement cost method, replacement cost method).
