Alfur is a name that Indonesians generally use to refer to non-Muslim people who lived in northern Sulawesi, the Maluku Islands, Halmahera, Mindanao and nearby islands, without any connection to the concept of ethnicity. Alfur means "people of the forest." It is also written as Alfure, Alfuro, Alfoer, Alfourou, etc. JG Frazer's The Golden Bough contains a number of descriptions of the Alfur. For example, the Alfur sometimes move sick people to other houses, but leave dolls made from pillows and clothes on the sick person's bed.
