Uterine erosion (English spelling)

Japanese: 子宮腟部糜爛 - しきゅうちつぶびらん（英語表記）erosio portionis

This is a condition in which part of the cervical mucosa is exposed to the vaginal cavity due to eversion of the cervix. It is so named because the vagina appears red with the naked eye, centered around the external cervical os. It is a physiological change caused by the action of female hormones, and is seen in the majority of mature women. However, cervical cancer is likely to develop in this area, and symptoms such as genital bleeding during intercourse are similar to those of cervical cancer, so it is especially important to confirm that early malignant lesions do not coexist, and then treat this condition if necessary.

子宮頸管の外翻により頸管粘膜の一部が腟腔に露出した状態をいう。腟部が外子宮口を中心にして肉眼的に発赤して見えるので，この名がある。女性ホルモンの作用によって生じる生理的な変化であり，成熟期女性の大多数にみられる。しかし，この部位に子宮頸癌が好発し，性交時性器出血など症状も子宮頸癌と類似しているので，とくに初期悪性病変が共存していないことを確認することが重要で，そのうえで必要があれば本症の治療が行われる。
