A former town in Hikami County in central Hyogo Prefecture. Located in the center of the upper reaches of the Saji River, Saji flourished as a post station on the road linking Tajima and Kyoto. In addition to lumber, the town cultivates rice, forest products, and freshwater fish. It also produces the folk craft "Tamba cloth." In recent years, an industrial complex has been developed. In November 2004, it merged with the towns of Kashiwara, Hikami, Kasuga, Yamanami, and Ichijima in Hikami County to become a city, Tamba City. 99.86 km2 . Population 7,577 (2003). 兵庫県中部，氷上(ひかみ)郡の旧町。佐治川上流に沿う中心の佐治は但馬(たじま)と京都を結ぶ街道の宿駅として栄えた。製材業のほか，米作，林産物の生産，淡水魚の養殖を行う。民芸品〈丹波布〉を産する。近年，工業団地が造成された。2004年11月氷上郡柏原町，氷上町，春日町，山南町，市島町と合併し市制，丹波市となる。99.86km2。7577人（2003）。
