Japanese: 青垣[町] - あおがき

A former town in Hikami County in central Hyogo Prefecture. Located in the center of the upper reaches of the Saji River, Saji flourished as a post station on the road linking Tajima and Kyoto. In addition to lumber, the town cultivates rice, forest products, and freshwater fish. It also produces the folk craft "Tamba cloth." In recent years, an industrial complex has been developed. In November 2004, it merged with the towns of Kashiwara, Hikami, Kasuga, Yamanami, and Ichijima in Hikami County to become a city, Tamba City. 99.86 ^km2 . Population 7,577 (2003).
