[1] 〘名〙① 三つある川の中間のもの。② 香木の名。分類は真南蛮(まなばん)。香味は苦酸甘鹹。六十一種名香の一つ。特に古くから京極道誉所持の名香として知られる。※蔭凉軒日録‐文正元年(1466)閏二月七日「中河者自京極道誉出之香也」[2][一] 京都市上京区、鴨川と桂川との中間を流れていた京極川のこと。今出川の下流部。相国寺の東側を南流、今出川通を左折してから寺町通に右折し、二条通で鴨川に注いでいた。歌枕。※蜻蛉(974頃)下「この月もやまずふりくらがりて、この中がはも大川もひとつにゆきあひぬべくみゆれば」[二] 利根川の分流。埼玉県羽生市付近で本流から分かれ、江戸川の西側を並行して南流し、東京都東部で東京湾に注ぐ。上流部の埼玉県では古利根川と呼ばれる。東京都葛飾区高砂付近で新中川が分かれる。全長約八〇キロメートル。[三] 北海道中央部、上川支庁の郡。天塩(てしお)川中流域の山間地。明治二年(一八六九)天塩国の一郡として成立。同四三年上川支庁の所属となる。[四] 北海道中南部、十勝支庁の郡。十勝川の中流域にある。明治二年(一八六九)十勝国の一郡として成立。[五] 名古屋市の行政区の一つ。昭和一二年(一九三七)成立。市南西部にある。東部は中川運河沿いの工業地域。中・西部は住宅地域。
