A non-destructive testing method that utilizes the fact that when a magnetic material such as steel is magnetized, magnetic flux leakage occurs if there is a defect. In the widely used magnetic particle testing method, magnetic powder such as iron oxide powder is attached to the surface of the material to be tested, and the location of the flaw is identified from the pattern created by the leakage of magnetic flux. Either direct or alternating current can be used for magnetization, but the latter can only detect surface defects due to the skin effect. Another widely used method is to scan the material surface with a coil (such as a rail inspection vehicle that inspects rails while moving). There is also a method that uses a semiconductor detection element to detect the leakage of magnetic flux as an electrical signal. → Related Topics Penetrant Inspection Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
