…Formally, it is a 502 km long road consisting of the Second Tokai Expressway (Tokyo-Nagoya Aida, approx. 328 km) and the Kinki Expressway Nagoya-Kobe Line (Nagoya-Kobe, approx. 174 km). In light of the current situation where the current Tomei and Meishin Expressways, the largest arterial routes, are becoming saturated with increasing traffic despite the widening of some sections, the construction of this road was decided in 1987 as a fundamental measure. The planned route runs mostly north of the current Tomei Expressway between Tokyo and Nagoya, and mostly south of the current Meishin Expressway between Nagoya and Kobe. …
