A term used in the land system to indicate a unit of land (shoen, menden) that appeared from the end of the Heian period through the Middle Ages. It means that it is not a newly established unit of land, but a unit of land that existed before and was officially recognized. The only known examples are (1) the Tsunemi menden of Nitta Shrine in Satsuma Province and (2) an example name for Yano Manor in Harima Province, so it does not seem to be a very common term. The example name for Nitta Shrine (Tsunemi menden) is used to mean the name of the menden that had been recognized by the provincial government and used for shrine purposes since ancient times.
