Qadiri Order

…Founder of the Qadiriyya, the first mystical order (tariqa) in the Islamic world. Born in Gilan, Iran, he went to Baghdad and became a Hanbalite jurist.

...This original meaning changed to mean a religious order created by Sufis. The establishment of tariqas in this latter sense is thought to have occurred around the 12th and 13th centuries, beginning with the Qadiri order founded by Abd al-Qadir al-Jilani, and many tariqas subsequently spread throughout the Islamic world. With the establishment of these tariqas, not only did Sufi organizations become stronger and more permanent, but they also included the general public as members of the order, achieving "Islamization" at the general public level.
