The protagonist of a series of adventure detective novels by French popular novelist Maurice Leblanc (1864-1941). The French pronunciation is Lupin. A man of many faces, he commits a series of crimes with brilliant methods that astound the world, but at the same time he is also a great detective and a very gentlemanly man to the ladies. The author Leblanc first created this character as the protagonist of "Arsène Lupin, the Gentle Thief" (1907), and later became a worldwide best-selling author with works such as "813" (1910) and "The Crystal Cork" (1912).

フランスの大衆小説家モーリス･ルブランMaurice Leblanc(1864‐1941)の連作･冒険推理小説の主人公。フランス語の発音はリュパン。いくつもの顔を持ち，世間をあっと言わせるような鮮やかな手口の犯罪を重ねる一方，ときには名探偵として活躍し，しかも女性にはあくまでいんぎんな紳士である魅力的な人物。作者ルブランは最初《怪盗紳士アルセーヌ･ルパン》(1907)の主人公としてこの人物を創作し，以下《813》(1910)，《水晶の栓》(1912)などの作品によって，世界的なベストセラー作家となった。
