High voltage test

Japanese: 高電圧試験 - こうでんあつしけん（英語表記）high voltage test

A test to check the insulation of electric power equipment such as transformers and generators. It is also called high-voltage insulation test or simply insulation test. It is broadly divided into dielectric strength test to check the withstandability of a specified high voltage, and insulation characteristics test to check the state of insulation at a relatively low voltage. The insulation of electric power equipment must function normally against various voltages applied over decades, but there are various difficult problems because this is verified by applying voltage for a short period of time. For equipment connected to AC power systems, a standardization proposal was made by the American Institute of Electrical Engineers at the end of the 19th century, and the standard established in 1907 stipulated that a voltage twice the rated voltage should be applied for one minute.

変圧器，発電機などの電力機器の絶縁を確かめる試験。高電圧絶縁試験，あるいは単に絶縁試験ともいう。所定の高電圧に耐えることを確認する絶縁耐力試験と，比較的低い電圧で絶縁の状態を調べる絶縁特性試験に大別される。電力機器の絶縁は数十年の間に加わる種々の電圧に対して正常な機能を果たさなければならないが，これを短時間の電圧を加えて検証するため種々困難な問題もかかえている。交流の電力系統に接続される機器については，19世紀末にアメリカの電気学会で標準化の提案があり，1907年に制定された標準規格で定格電圧の2倍の電圧を1分間加えることが定められた。
