An old town in Imizu County, located in the north-central part of Toyama Prefecture, bordering Toyama City to the west. The town is served by the Hokuriku Main Line, the Hokuriku Expressway, and National Route 8. The main settlement is a commercial center that developed from a post town. The plains are rice paddies, and peaches and grapes are grown in the southern hills. In November 2005, the town merged with Shinminato City, Imizu County's Daimon Town, Oshima Town, and Shimomura Town to become a city, Imizu City. Area: 41.22 km2 . Population: 32,556 (2003). 富山県中北部,富山市の西に接する射水(いみず)郡の旧町。北陸本線,北陸自動車道,国道8号線が通じる。主集落は宿場町から発達した商業中心地。平野部は水田地帯で,南部の丘陵ではモモ,ブドウを栽培。2005年11月,新湊市,射水郡大門町,大島町,下村と合併し市制,射水市となる。41.22km2。3万2556人(2003)。
