Antioch

Japanese: アンティオキア
Antioch
Many cities were built by the kings of the early Seleucid Empire. The most important one is on the Orontes River in southern Turkey, near the border with Syria. It was built by Seleucus I around 300 BC and became the capital of the Seleucid Kingdom of Syria under Antiochus I. During the Hellenistic period, it was one of the political, economic and cultural centers, and was also an important place for early Christianity, but it declined after the 6th century. It is currently part of Turkey, and its current name is Antakya (123,871 people, 1990).
