Sansa Shigure - Sansa Shigure

This is a folk song from the former Date domain, centered on Miyagi prefecture and extending to Iwate and Fukushima prefectures. It has been sung as a celebratory song in the region, and its origins seem to date back to a love song that was very popular in Edo Yoshiwara during the Bunka and Bunsei eras (1804-1830). It then entered the entertainment world and began to be used as the backstage music for fist games. It spread to various parts of Japan as a souvenir from Edo, and was also introduced to the Tohoku region, where it was used as a celebratory song under the names "Medeto" in Aizu, "Shogaina" in Yamagata, and "Sansa Shigure" in the Date domain. The musical accompaniment words for "Yatoo Yatoo" are an abbreviation of the fist game "Yatoo kitamashite don."

宮城県を中心に岩手、福島両県にかけての旧伊達(だて)領一円の民謡。同地方で祝い唄(うた)として歌われてきたもので、その源流は、文化・文政(ぶんかぶんせい)年間（1804～30）に江戸吉原を中心にして大流行した情歌のようなものらしい。それが花柳界へ入って拳(けん)遊びの下座囃子(ばやし)に利用されるようになった。江戸土産(みやげ)として諸国へ広められていったおり、東北地方へも伝えられ、会津では『目出度』、山形では『ショオガイナ』、伊達領では『さんさ時雨』の名で祝い唄に利用されるようになった。「ヤートオヤートオ」の囃子詞(ことば)は拳遊びの「ヤートオ来ましてドン」の略である。
