Emission Star - Ki Sensei

Japanese: 輝線星 - きせんせい

A general term for stars whose absorption lines in the spectrum are inverted into emission lines, or whose emission line components are seen in the center or wings of the absorption lines. In normal stars, absorption lines usually appear as dark lines on top of a bright continuous spectrum. Emission lines in the spectrum are mainly due to the existence of a thin gas sphere (called the circumstellar sphere) outside the star's photosphere, and the most commonly observed is the Balmer line of hydrogen.

スペクトル中の吸収線が輝線に反転していたり，吸収線の中央部や翼部に輝線成分が見られる恒星の総称。ふつうの星では吸収線は通常，明るい連続スペクトルの上の暗線となって表れる。スペクトル中に輝線が生じるのは，主として，星の光球の外側に希薄なガス圏（星周圏という）が存在するためで，もっとも一般的に観測されるのは水素のバルマー線。
