Sarmatians

Sarmatians
A nomadic horse-riding people of Iranian origin who wielded power mainly in southern Russia from the 4th century BC onwards. At one time they conquered Scythia and controlled the entire area north of the Black Sea coast (1st century BC-1st century AD). They then invaded the Roman province of Moesia (Bulgaria) and became a serious threat to the northeastern frontier of the Roman Empire. In the 3rd century, they were pushed back by the Huns who migrated from the east, and left their homeland in southern Russia. They allied with the Goths, a branch of Germanic tribes, and flooded into Western Europe, triggering the Great Migration, which significantly weakened the power of Rome, but they completely disappeared from history by the 6th century.
