Chou-ren zhuan (English: Biography of a Person)

This is a 46-volume collection of biographies of Chinese mathematicians and astronomers, completed in 1799 with the help of mathematician Li Rui and other guests from the Imperial Court. It refers to so-called calendar mathematicians. Ruan Yuan believed that mathematics is consistent with the laws of the universe and that the study of calendar mathematicians is a subject that Confucians should naturally study. The collection includes 243 Chinese and 37 Western mathematicians and astronomers from the legendary Golden Age to the Qing Dynasty, and contributed to the revival of traditional Chinese mathematics during the Qianlong and Jiaqing periods. However, biographies of Yang Hui, Zhu Shijie, and Ming An Tu from the early Qing Dynasty were missing, so Luo Shilin compiled the Continued Collection of the Biography of the Chouren (6 volumes, 1840), which includes mathematicians from the early 19th century. Following these works, Ka Shifang compiled the Modern Writings of the Clan (84), Zhu Kabao compiled the Three Parts of the Biographies of the Clan (7 volumes, 86), and Huang Zhongjun compiled the Four Parts of the Biographies of the Clan (98).

嘉慶4 (1799) 年，数学者の李鋭らの幕客の協力によって完成し，阮元によって刊行された中国歴代の数学者，天文学者の伝記。 46巻。疇人という言葉は『史記』「暦書」に初めて用いられたが，いわゆる暦算学者のことをさす。阮元は，数学は宇宙万物の理法に合致すると考え，暦算の学は儒者が当然研究すべき学問だとした。こうして編まれた『疇人伝』には，伝説上の黄金時代から，清朝までの中国人 243人，西洋人 37人の数学者，天文学者が収録されており，乾隆・嘉慶時代の中国伝統数学の復興に寄与した。しかし，楊輝や朱世傑，清初の明安図などの伝記が欠けていたため，19世紀初めの数学者も含めて，羅士琳が『続疇人伝』 (6巻，1840) をまとめた。これらの仕事を受継ぎ，華世房が『近代疇人著述記』 (84) ，諸可宝が『疇人伝三編』 (7巻，86) ，黄鍾駿が『疇人伝四編』 (98) を編んだ。
