Saran (English spelling) Raoul Salan

A French soldier and army general. He served overseas for many years before World War II, and after the war he served as commander in chief of the Indochina Expeditionary Force and the Algerian Expeditionary Force. He participated in the May 1958 revolt by French colonists in Algiers, who called for a "French Algeria," and played a part in supporting de Gaulle. After his reappearance, de Gaulle leaned toward accepting Algerian independence, so he participated in a military revolt in April 1961, and after the revolt failed, he was sentenced to death in absentia. He founded the terrorist organization OAS and continued to oppose de Gaulle's Algerian policies, but was arrested in 1962 and had his sentence commuted to life imprisonment. He was released under a special amnesty in 1968.

フランスの軍人。陸軍大将。第二次世界大戦前は海外各地に長く勤務し、大戦後はインドシナ派遣軍総司令官、アルジェリア派遣軍総司令官を歴任した。「フランス領アルジェリア」を叫んだ1958年5月のアルジェのフランス植民者の反乱に加担してドゴール担ぎ出しに一役買った。再登場後のドゴールがアルジェリア独立容認に傾いたため1961年4月の軍事反乱に加担し、反乱失敗後、欠席裁判で死刑を宣告された。テロ組織OASを創設しドゴールのアルジェリア政策への反対を続けたが、1962年に逮捕され終身禁錮に減刑された。1968年に特赦で釈放された。
