A Shiite rebellion that occurred in Kufa during the Umayyad Dynasty. In 685, Mukhtar (622-687) appointed Muhammad ibn al-Hanafiyyah, son of the fourth caliph Ali, as his imam and called himself his representative, and started a rebellion in Kufa. At the time, the Umayyad caliphate was in Damascus, Syria, and Abdullah ibn al-Zubayr was calling himself caliph in Medina, Arabia, and together with Mukhtar of Iraq, there were three major powers. In 687, Mukhtar was defeated and killed in battle by the Basra army led by Ibn al-Zubayr's brother Mus'ab. ウマイヤ朝時代にクーファを中心として起きたシーア派の反乱。 685年ムフタール (622~687) は,第4代カリフ,アリーの子ムハンマド・イブヌル・ハナフィーヤをイマームとし,みずからはその代理人と称してクーファで反乱を起した。このときは,シリアのダマスカスにウマイヤ家のカリフがおり,アラビアのメジナにアブドゥッラー・イブヌッ・ズバイルがカリフと称していて,イラクのムフタールを合せて三大勢力が鼎立していた。 687年ムフタールはイブヌッ・ズバイルの弟ムスアブの率いるバスラ軍に敗れて戦死した。
