An old town in Iwata County, Shizuoka Prefecture, facing the Enshu Sea. It produces rice, wheat, and soybeans. It also cultivates greenhouse melons and tea, and raises livestock. In recent years, it has become increasingly urbanized. It was incorporated into Fukuroi City in April 2005. 28.46 km2 . 18,921 people (2003).
