Upit, A. (English spelling) UpitA

…After the October Revolution in 1918, the three Baltic states became independent republics, but in 1940 they were integrated into the Soviet Union. Representative writers include the Estonian novelist Tammsare, the Latvian poet Rainis, the Socialist Realist novelist Andrei Upit (1877-1970), and the Lithuanian poet Eduardas Mezhelaitis (1919- ), but because they were integrated into the Soviet Union during the emergency period, all three countries produced many exiled writers.
