Koshu gold

Koshu gold
〘Noun〙 Gold coins minted during the Tenbun era ( 1532-1555 ) by the Takeda clan, who ruled Kai Province (Yamanashi Prefecture), using gold minted from their own mines. They are generally round, but there are exceptions, such as go stone-shaped ones and small rectangular ones. As a territory directly controlled by the shogunate during the Edo period, it continued to have its own currency system, and circulated only in Koshu until around 1826 ( Bunsei 9 ). Koshu. Ko gold. 〘名〙 甲斐国(山梨県)を領有した武田氏が自領の鉱山から産出した金を使って天文年間(一五三二‐五五)に創鋳した金貨。主として円形だが、異例として碁石形のもの、小長方形のものもある。江戸時代にも幕府直轄領として、引き続き独自の貨幣体系を持ち、文政九年(一八二六)頃まで甲州一円にだけ流通した。甲州。甲金。甲州判。〔国家金銀銭譜追加(古事類苑・泉貨五)〕
