[Japanese Theory of Evolution]
The idea of ​​evolution was described in Shingaku Oku no Kakehashi (1816 draft, published in 1822) by the Sekishu Shinsho scholar Kamata Ryuo (1754-1821) near the end of the Edo period, and it was no doubt based on knowledge from Dutch studies books, but the details are unknown. In the Meiji period, Matsumori Taneyasu wrote about evolution in his Private Thoughts on Reason (1875), but the first systematic introduction to evolutionary theory was given by the American ES Morse, who came to Japan in 1878 as a professor of zoology at the University of Tokyo. His lectures were later translated by Ishikawa Chiyomatsu and published as Animal Evolution (1883).

　江戸時代末期近く石門心学者の鎌田柳泓（りゆうおう）(1754‐1821)が著した《心学奥の桟（かけはし）》(1816稿，1822刊)に進化の観念がのべられており，それは蘭学書よりの知識にちがいないが，詳細は不明とされる。明治時代に入り，松森胤保（たねやす）《求理私言》(1875)に進化のことが書かれたが，進化論の最初の体系的な紹介は1878年に東京大学動物学教授として来日したアメリカ人E.S.モースによってなされた。その講義はのち石川千代松訳《動物進化論》(1883)として刊行された。…
