Russian revolutionary and writer. He initially approached Marxism, but later became a senior member of the Socialist Revolutionary Party and was active as one of the leaders of a terrorist organization. After the February Revolution of 1917, he became Deputy Minister of War in the Kerensky Cabinet, but after the October Revolution he engaged in counter-revolutionary activities and went into exile in 1918. In 1924, he returned to Russia secretly, but was captured and committed suicide in prison. He wrote an autobiographical novel, The Pale Horse, under the pen name Ropshin, which depicts the psychology of a terrorist.

ロシアの革命家，作家。初めマルクス主義に接近したがのち社会革命党の幹部となり，テロ組織の責任者の一人として活動した。1917年二月革命後ケレンスキー内閣の陸軍次官となったが十月革命後反革命運動を行い1918年亡命。1924年潜行帰国して捕らえられて獄中で自殺した。ロープシンRopshinの筆名によるテロリストの心理を描いた自伝的小説《蒼(あお)ざめた馬》がある。
