Symptoms of repeated, sustained, specific behaviors over a long period of time are common during the excited phase of catatonic schizophrenia. These include stereotypic movements such as repeatedly moving the hands up and down, stereotypic postures such as maintaining a certain posture, refusing to leave a certain place, and recitation disorder, where the same words or phrases are repeated.
