Letter of Jude

One of the letters known as the "Public Epistles" in the New Testament. The author calls himself "Jude the brother of James" (1:1), clearly intending to be Jude the brother of Jesus, but most scholars agree that it is not an authentic letter. It is thought to have been written by a Jewish Christian in the late 1st or early 2nd century, and attempts to refute Gnosticism, a heresy of the time. It has ideological similarities with the "Second Epistle of Peter," and was not finally recognized as a canonical text until the late 4th century.

新約聖書中《公同書簡》と呼ばれる手紙の一つ。著者はみずからを〈ヤコブの兄弟ユダ〉と称して(1：1)，明らかにイエスの弟ユダであることを意図しているが，これが真正の手紙でないことは大多数の学者が認めている。1人のユダヤ人キリスト者によって1世紀末～2世紀初めに執筆されたものと思われ，当時の異端としてのグノーシス主義を論駁しようとしている。《ペテロの第2の手紙》との思想的類似があり，4世紀末になってようやく正典として認められた。
