The British Parliament enacted the Bubble Act (1720), which prohibited companies without the Royal Charter or Parliamentary approval from issuing stock. This caused many illegal companies to disappear, and coupled with the collapse of the boom in Paris, the speculative fever cooled rapidly, and the South Sea Company's stock plummeted to 120 pounds by the end of the 1720.
