The genus Connarius, which belongs to the family Connariceae, is a woody plant with approximately 100 species (illustration). It is widely distributed in tropical regions around the world. It is a well-branched shrub or tree that often grows as a vine, and is often found in secondary forests and roadsides. The leaves are alternate, and the base of the petiole has a developed pulvinus like that of the Fabaceae, but it has no stipules. Small flowers are clustered in panicles at the ends of the branches, and produce fruits with a single bean-like seed. The fruits, seeds, and bark of the Connarius genus are used locally as folk medicines in various tropical regions.

約100種あまりを有するコンナルス科コンナルス属の木本性植物（イラスト）。世界の熱帯域に広く分布する。よく分枝する低木や高木で，しばしばつる状になり，二次林や路傍に多い。葉は互生し，葉柄基部にはマメ科と同じように葉枕が発達するが，托葉はない。小型の花は枝端の円錐状花序に多数むらがってつき，豆のような1個の種子を有する実をつける。　コンナルス属は，熱帯各地で実や種子，あるいは樹皮が民間薬として地方的に利用されている。
