Tibetan script - Tibetan characters

The script used for Tibetan. It consists of 30 consonants and 4 vowel symbols. It is said to have originated from the northern Indian Gupta script. There are regular and cursive scripts, and it is written from left to right. The oldest document dates back to the 8th century. There are considerable differences in orthography and pronunciation today. Other scripts derived from this include Phag-pa and Lepcha.
