A semi-cold-hardy evergreen perennial plant of the Asteraceae family, native to South Africa. It was imported to Japan around 1972, and has been widely distributed in recent years as a greenhouse plant. It grows to a height of 60-70cm, and has beautiful silvery-white leaves with long, narrow, deeply incised leaves that grow alternately. The most commonly cultivated variety is Yellow Joy, which produces bright yellow, single-flowered heads about 3.5cm in diameter that resemble daisies. The flowers bloom well in spring, but continue to bloom for a long period of time into autumn. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
