Japanese: 日本勧業銀行[株] - にほんかんぎょうぎんこう

One of the special banks. Established in 1897 under the Japan Industrial Bank Law. Its purpose was to supply long-term funds to agriculture and industry, but after the establishment of the Industrial Bank of Japan in 1902, it became more agricultural-oriented and transformed into an institution responsible for agricultural financial policy. From 1921 to 1944, it merged all the agricultural and industrial banks in the country under the Agricultural Merger Law. In October 1945, it issued the first government lottery. It raised funds by issuing bonds and mainly provided mortgage loans for real estate, but this became difficult due to the land reforms after the war, so it converted into an ordinary bank in 1950. With the enforcement of the Long-Term Credit Bank Law in 1952, it stopped issuing bonds. In 1971, it merged with Daiichi Bank to become Daiichi Kangyo Bank.

特殊銀行の一つ。1897年〈日本勧業銀行法〉に基づいて設立。農工業への長期資金供給を目的としたが，1902年の日本興業銀行の設立以降農業への傾斜を深め，農業金融政策の担当機関に変容。1921−1944年，〈勧農合併法〉に基づき全国の農工銀行を合併。1945年10月，政府の第１回宝くじを発行。債券発行で資金調達し，不動産抵当貸付を主としたが，終戦後の農地改革によりそれが困難になり，1950年に普通銀行に転換。1952年〈長期信用銀行法〉施行に伴い，債券発行を停止。1971年第一銀行と合併し，第一勧業銀行になる。
