A former town in Osato County in northern Saitama Prefecture. Bordering the southwest of Kumagaya City, the northern part lies on the alluvial lowlands of the Arakawa River, and the southern part on a diluvial plateau. Home to the Nohara ancient tombs and other burial mounds. The town produces rice, wheat, soybeans, and vegetables. It has automobile-, pharmaceutical-, and computer-related industries, and its shipping value is also increasing. It is home to the Hirayama House (an important cultural property), a traditional house from the early Edo period. Incorporated into Kumagaya City in February 2007. 22.85 km2 .
