It is located in Ichinomiya, Iga City, Mie Prefecture. The main deity is Ahe no Kuni Tsukami, and Sukunahikona no Mikoto and Kanayama Hime no Mikoto are also enshrined. Ahe no Kuni Tsukami is one of the four generals of the Sujin Dynasty and is considered to be Ohiko no Mikoto, the ancestor of Ahe no Omi. To the north of the shrine is the Mihakayama Kofun (national historic site), the largest keyhole-shaped tumulus in Mie Prefecture (early 5th century), which is said to be the tomb of Ohiko no Mikoto. This shrine was probably worshiped by the Ahe (Ahe) clan, an ancient powerful clan based in Ahe County, Iga Province (Mie Prefecture). It is a shrine listed in the Engi Shikin and is the Ichinomiya of Iga Province. The shrine temporarily declined during the Tensho Iga Rebellion (Oda Nobunaga's invasion of Iga) in 1579 (Tensho 7) and 1581, but was restored by Todo Takatora, the lord of Tsu Domain, during the Keicho era (1596-1615) and prospered as the central shrine of the Iga region. It was designated a national shrine in 1871 (Meiji 4). The lion kagura dance performed at the annual festival (December 5th) is a prefectural intangible folk cultural asset.
