A tribe of Osci (Osci people) who lived in the mountainous region of central Italy in the 1st millennium BC. They had been planning to invade Latium for some time, and in the 5th century BC, they advanced as far as Tusculum, Labicum, and Algidus, and often clashed with Rome along with the Volsci. In the end, Rome won the battle in 304 BC, and after the war, Roman colonies (Alba Fucens, Calcioli) were built on the former site of the Aequi. Some of them continued to exist under the name of Aequicri. [Ryuichi Hirata] Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
