Koryak people - Koryak tribe (English spelling) Koryaki

Indigenous people living in the northern half of the Kamchatka Peninsula and the mainland of the Russian Federation. Population: 8,900 (1989). They speak the Koryak language, and most of them currently make up the Koryak Autonomous Okrug. By the mid-17th century, when Russians first settled there, there were already two types of occupation: reindeer Koryaks and coast Koryaks (sedentary Koryaks). The former called themselves Chavchyv, and lived inland, specializing in reindeer herding. The latter called themselves Nymylyn. They settled on the coast, catching salmon and trout in the rivers in summer and making dried fish (yukkola), and in winter they hunted seals, whales, and other marine mammals in skin boats (baidara, baidarkas). ロシア連邦のカムチャツカ半島の北半分から大陸部にかけて居住する原住民。人口8900(1989)。コリヤーク語を話し，その大部分が現在コリヤーク自治管区を構成する。ロシア人が入植した17世紀半ばには，すでに生業の上でトナカイ･コリヤークと海岸コリヤーク(定住コリヤーク)の別があった。前者はチャフチフChavchyvと自称し，内陸部でトナカイ牧畜を専業とする。後者はニミリンNymylynと自称。海岸に定住し，夏は川でサケやマスを捕って干魚(ユッコラ)をつくり，冬は皮舟(バイダラ，バイダルカ)でアザラシ，クジラなどの海獣猟を行う。
