Long Light - Nagamitsu
[1] A swordsmith from Osafune, Bizen Province, during the Kamakura period. He is said to be the son of Mitsutada, the founder of the Osafune school. He was active from the Bun'ei to Kagen eras ( 1264-1306 ). His work was broad, ranging from ornate to plain straight-edged swords. Famous examples include Daihannya Nagamitsu and Totomi Nagamitsu. There were several other swordsmiths with the same name. The term also refers to swords forged by Nagamitsu. *Toraakirahon Kyogen, Nagamitsu (late Muromachi period - early early modern period): "A long sword is a Bizen item, even in Bizen it is a long sword." [2] Kyogen. Various schools. A dispute breaks out when a thief from the capital tries to steal a countryman's long sword. When the arbitrator asks about the characteristics of the sword to confirm its owner, both men say the same thing. The countryman realizes that the thief is eavesdropping on his conversation and whispers to the arbitrator's question, but the thief is unable to answer and runs away.

[一] 鎌倉時代、備前国長船(おさふね)の刀工。長船派の祖、光忠の子と伝えられる。文永から嘉元(一二六四‐一三〇六)にかけて活躍。作域は広く、華麗なものから、直刃の地味なものまであり、有名なものに大般若長光、遠江長光などがある。同名の刀工は他に数人いる。また、長光の鍛えた刀もいう。※虎明本狂言・長光(室町末‐近世初)「太刀はびぜん物でござる、びぜんにてもながみつでござる」[二] 狂言。各流。都の盗人がいなか者の太刀を取ろうとして争いとなる。仲裁人が刀の持ち主を確認するためにその特徴を尋ねると、二人ともに同じことをいう。盗人が自分の話を盗み聞きしていることに気づいたいなか者が、仲裁人の問に小声で答えると、盗人は答えられず逃げる。
